In June 1990 Joyce Hugget underwent surgery in St. Lukes Hospital for the Clergy in London. her stay as a patient was followed by several months of convalescence - a time of hiddenness which hse valued for the opportunity it gave her to refelct further on ways of listening to God. She draws o her experience as a patient to reflect on suffering, to trace the history and to highlight the special ministry of this unique hospital. It is a testimony to the faithfulness of God and the power of a practical spirituality.
